Carol Haskin
Vice President
With over 17 years of experience in the business world, Carol Haskin brings to the MSSG board strong organizational skills as well as strong dedication to improving the lives of developmentally disabled individuals.
Her youngest child, Michael, who was born with cerebral palsy went to live at Mountain Shadows Community Homes (MSCH) in 1995. At that time, Michael was 16 and had lived at home with his three sisters and a brother while Ms. Haskin cared for him. Although she worked in various businesses with her husband during those years, she also supervised an extensive array of volunteers and agency workers who were involved with Michael’s rehabilitation program. During those years, she was a proactive parent, managing his care through schooling and day programs.
When investigating options for community placement for Michael as he neared his 16th birthday, Ms. Haskin met a former employee of MSCH who recommended the facility. Through involvement in facility events and the parent support group, she realized she could make a difference in the quality of life for all of the MSCH residents.
Serving as president of the parent support group (newly renamed) The Friends of Mountain Shadows for the past two years, Ms. Haskin actively campaigned to widen the base of community, financial, and family support for the facility. Her focus is on transforming the support group, “infusing it with new energy and life“ as a means of making the homes the best they can be.
